Chih-Yuan Hsieh, Executive Vice President of R&D and Operations at BiOLOVE, was invited to the 2026 CHRO Forum — "A New AI Era, a New Chapter for Talent Sustainability" — on 29 April. He brought a reproductive medicine perspective to how companies can build fertility support into talent strategy, helping HR leaders address retention in an era of declining birth rates.

Recognising fertility anxiety in the workplace

Taiwan's number of newborns has fallen for ten consecutive years, while the average age of first marriage and first birth continues to rise. Hsieh noted that whether people have children is a structural national issue that is hard to reverse — but whether they are able to is something employers can act on. When employees are forced to choose between having a child and advancing their career, the people a company loses are the hardest to replace. That is a hidden cost.

Replacing uncertainty with expertise

Hsieh began with how age affects ovarian function and embryo chromosomes, explaining the role of AMH (anti-Müllerian hormone) as an indicator of ovarian reserve and clarifying that chronological age is not the same as ovarian age. He addressed common misconceptions one by one — about egg retrieval procedures, weight change, and whether the process brings menopause forward — stressing that fertility preservation depends on understanding your own situation early rather than deciding in haste.

From a basic benefit to an ESG strategy

Hsieh grouped employee needs into stages: single or early-career, newly married and planning, actively trying to conceive, and diverse families and single women. Each maps to different forms of support — fertility testing, pre-conception health checks, insemination and IVF. He also noted that as Taiwan's Assisted Reproduction Act is amended and national subsidies expand, more companies are bringing egg freezing and assisted reproduction into their benefits. Fertility support has shifted from a consumable benefit cost to a human-capital metric that bears on both retention and ESG ratings.

Building better workplaces alongside employers

BiOLOVE offers workplace health talks, a dedicated consultation channel and corporate partnership agreements, helping companies answer employees' questions on conception through tailored health education and ease the burden of treatment.

Falling birth rates are a feature of our time, but companies can still cultivate the vitality of their people. Embedding fertility support into organisational culture is the highest-return policy a company can buy for its own future.
